Highlights for Jan. 13: Seymour’s Thurmond reaches 1,000 points

Faith Thurmond scored nine points to become the sixth girls basketball player in Seymour history to reach the 1,000-point mark Friday in a 56-17 win over Ansonia.
Thurmond joins Tina Dragalin, Heather Landolfi, Maria Conlon, Heather Lee and Christina Cretella on the school’s 1,000-point list.
Megan Todhunter had 17 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals as Pomperaug beat Immaculate, 79-63. Karli Opalka had 23 points and 25 rebounds, and Ally McCormick had eight points, 11 steals and nine assists.
Casey Carangelo had 33 points and 15 rebounds to lead Thomaston over Terryville, 64-36.
Raven Cody scored 25 points to lead Wolcott to a 68-41 win over Derby. Anna Chevarella had 21 points for Derby.
Katiusca DelaCruz had 18 points and 22 rebounds to lead Wolcott Tech to a 43-35 win over Abbott Tech.
Brie Pergola scored 20 points and Sidnee Kovall 16 as Torrington defeated Woodland, 56-47. Maddie Hupprich led the Hawks with 17 points.
Idalis Miranda made six 3-pointers and finished with 19 points in Holy Cross’ 72-31 win over WCA.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Chase Belden had 25 points, including the game-winning runner in the lane with 15 seconds left, to lead Pomperaug over Immaculate, 54-52.
Raheem Solomon had 36 points for Sacred Heart as it defeated Wilby, 86-55.
Josh Schibi scored 27 points to lead Lewis Mills over Housatonic, 76-35.
Jean Lukau Mbalandaka scored 20 points, and Corey Plasky made six 3-pointers for 18 points in Naugatuck’s 80-68 win over Watertown. Guy Curtis led the Indians with 16.
Mike Palmieri had 21 points to lead St. Paul past Oxford, 88-47.
Wamogo’s Garrett Sattazahn scored 15 in Wamogo’s 50-42 win over Litchfield.
Ben North had 16 points to lead Northwestern to a 78-42 win over host Gilbert.
Pat Drewry scored 21 points to lead Wolcott over Derby, 74-58. Isaiah Walker led Derby with 19 points.
Jaylen Crawford had 27-points to lead Seymour past Ansonia, 74-59. Kevin Crawford had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Cristyan Clase had 28 points for the Chargers.
DeAndre Wallace had 13 points and 15 rebounds in Holy Cross’ 56-54 win over WCA. Jadan Battle led WCA with 16 points.
Shawn Iwanow had 17 points as Terryville topped Thomaston, 63-55.
Ethan Hibbard netted 17 points for Shepaug as it defeated Nonnewaug, 54-52.
