Lauren Pelosi recorded 19 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Taft girls basketball team as it earned a 55-38 opening-night victory over Kingswood-Oxford in West Hartford on Wednesday.
The Rhinos led, 27-23, at the half, and opened the second half with an 18-4 run to pull away.
Kayla Robinson had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Taft (1-0), while Karalyn Baird added 12 points.
Taft boys 65, Brunswick 35: Moses Polking led the Rhinos with 14 points in the season-opening win.
Connor Printz and Shamir Johnson, both of Waterbury, scored 13 and 10 points, respectively. Zavier Rucker, of Woodbury, added eight for Taft (1-0).
