Highlights for Oct. 28: Covello nets 5 goals, Fortuna 4 to lead area scorers

Jenna Covello had five goals in a 6-0 win over Gilbert on Friday in BL girls soccer action.
Alyssa Wrabel had three goals and an assist, and Chloe Waldron had two goals and two assists in Lewis Mills’ 7-0 win over Shepaug.
Mary Bibbey recorded a hat trick for Nonnewaug as it defeated Wamogo, 7-0. Christina Sordi and Azria Malloy added two goals apiece for the Chiefs.
BOYS SOCCER
Joe Fortuna had four goals and an assist in Lewis Mills’ 5-1 win over Shepaug.
Charlie Shanks had a goal and an assist in Litchfield’s 2-1 win over Housatonic.
Garrick Webster and Ardonis Shahini had two goals each in a 7-1 win over Gilbert.
Michael Kowalasky netted the game’s lone goal with 17 seconds left in regulation to give Pomperaug the SWC tournament first-round win over Weston.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Hannah Maclean had 28 assists, eight digs and five aces as  Nonnewaug beat Gilbert, 3-1.
Haley Tharau had 15 digs and 10 kills for Lewis Mills in a 3-1 loss to Jonathan Law.
