There was a pivotal play in the top of the eighth inning of the Class S softball semifinal Thursday, eventually won by Holy Cross, that was crazy close.
East Granby thought it had scored the go-ahead run, despite a spectacular catch by Crusaders’ shortstop Allie Brown. But upon appeal the home plate umpire ruled that the runner left the base too early, calling a double play that ended the inning.
The Crusaders went on to win the game in the bottom of the inning when Brown tripled and winning pitcher Sarah Lawton drive her home.
