Highlights for May 18: Sastram records 150th career hit

REPUBLICAN-AMERICAN
Doug Thorne had the game-winning RBI single, scoring Shawn Fulton with one out in the bottom of seventh, to give Terryville a 5-4 win over Wamogo on Wednesday in Berkshire League baseball action.
Tino Toucet threw a 3-hitter with 14 strikeouts in WCA’s 12-1 win over Vinal Tech.
Andrew Owsianko tossed a one-hitter and rang up seven strikeouts for St. Paul as it defeated Derby, 5-0.
Matt Mancini had three hits and three RBI for Sacred Heart while Ben Gomes added two hits and two RBI, in a 9-7 victory over Kaynor Tech.
Isaiah Negretti tallied two hits, including a home run, and three RBI to lead Wolcott over Nonnewaug, 13-5.
SOFTBALL
Meghan Sastram had three hits, including the 150th of her career, in Oxford’s 14-4 win over Naugatuck.
Katelyn Benedict had a double, two singles, two RBI and three runs scored to lead Wolcott Tech to a 23-8 win over Wilby.
Cheshire’s Abby Abramson tossed a seven-hitter in a 3-2 win over Lauralton Hall.
Nathalie Vega had a double, a home run, three RBI and three runs scored to lead Kaynor Tech to a 17-5 win over Crosby.
Cyrena Zemaitis tossed a two-hitter with 15 strikeouts to go along with a double and two RBI for Wamogo as it defeated Terryville, 4-0.
Sarah Lawton tossed a three-hitter and rang up 13 strikeouts for Holy Cross as it defeated Bethel, 10-1. Lawton also had four hits, including a double and two triples.
GIRLS TENNIS
Naugatuck edged Sacred Heart, 4-3, in the NVL tournament semifinals at Fulton Park. Sarah Cook and Kelly Carr won their singles matches for the Greyhounds. Kelly Murphy and Ally Mezzo, and Gina Greco and Nicole Bolduc won at doubles.
The Greyhounds will face the winner of today’s Watertown-Wolcott match in the final Friday at Woodland at 3 p.m.
BOYS TENNIS
Weston defeated Pomperaug, 5-2, in the SWC tournament final to claim its sixth straight league crown.
Wolcott and Holy Cross advanced to the NVL tournament final with wins on Wednesday.
The Eagles blanked, 9-0, and the Crusaders defeated Torrington, 6-3.
The final is Friday at Woodland at 3.
GOLF
Joel Farabee of South Kent shot a 37 for medalist honors, and Timmy LeBlanc of Chase was two shot back at 39 at the Housatonic Valley Athletic Conference golf championship at Bulls Bridge Golf Club.
